Cover of The iPhone Power User Fix Book, dark navy with the title set in white and purple.

Your iPhone does something annoying. You assume that is just how it works.

It usually is not.

Almost every complaint people have about stock iOS apps has a fix that already exists on the phone. Apple buried it two menus deep, or gave it a name that does not describe what it does, or shipped it switched off and never mentioned it again.

I have been writing about Apple software since 2016, and the same thing keeps happening. Someone spends years working around a problem that turns out to be one toggle. This book is 45 of those toggles, collected and written up properly.

Try three of them now

This is the format. Nothing is hidden.

Every fix in the book has the same four parts, so you can find what you need in about ten seconds and stop reading the moment it is solved. Here are three real ones, in full.

01 / FILES & PREVIEW

Stop Preview hijacking every tap

Files > long press file > Open With

Tapping a file in Files launches a separate Preview app, and closing it drops you on Preview’s home screen instead of the folder you were in.

  1. Long press any PDF in the Files app.
  2. Tap Open With, then scroll to the very bottom.
  3. Select Preview with Quick Look.
  4. Repeat once for JPG and once for PNG.

This is per file type, not global. Three passes covers almost everything you open.

Inside the book

Built to be skimmed, not read

A section divider page from the book, dark navy with a large numeral and the section title.
Each section opens with a divider so you can thumb straight to the app you need.
An interior page showing two fixes, each with a settings path, numbered steps and a note.
The problem in one sentence, the settings path in one line, then numbered steps.

Being clear

What this is not

  • No jailbreaking, no sideloading, no configuration profiles.
  • No third party apps to buy, install, or subscribe to.
  • Nothing that voids a warranty or risks your data.
  • Not a beginner guide. It assumes you already use your phone daily.

Questions

Before you buy

Do I need to jailbreak anything?
No. Every fix in the book is a setting or a gesture that already shipped on your iPhone. Nothing here requires a jailbreak, a sideloaded app, a profile, or a subscription to anything.
Will this work on my iPhone?
The book is written against iOS 26. Most of the fixes have existed for several versions and still apply on iOS 18, but a handful are newer. Apple also moves menu items between releases, so each fix lists the settings path and the book tells you to search Settings by name if a path does not match your phone exactly.
Is any of this on the blog already?
Some of it. The Files and Preview section grew out of a post on The Useful Tech. The other nine sections are new, and the point of the book is having all 45 in one place in a consistent format rather than scattered across years of articles.
What happens when iOS changes?
Updates are free for everyone who buys once. When a new iOS version moves things or adds a fix worth including, you get the revised PDF at no extra cost.
What format is it?
A single PDF, 35 pages, set in a light theme and laid out to stay readable on a phone screen so you can follow a fix on the same device you are fixing.

Stop assuming that is just how it works

45 fixes across ten stock apps. Every setting Apple buried, in one place, in a format you can skim.

Your iPhone does something annoying. You assume that is just how it works. It usually is not.

Almost every complaint people have about stock iOS apps has a fix that already exists on the phone. Apple buried it two menus deep, gave it a name that doesn't describe what it does, or shipped it switched off. This book is 45 of those fixes, organized by app, written so you can find the one you need in about ten seconds.

What's inside

Ten sections covering Files and Preview, Photos, Safari, Mail, Messages, Keyboard and Text, Notifications and Focus, Battery and Storage, Camera, and Buttons and Automation.

A few of the 45: the toggle that stops the Preview app hijacking every tap in iOS 26. Why Files search returns nothing for files that plainly exist, and where to search from instead. Changing where Safari actually saves downloads, which is the real cause of the "where did my file go" problem. Turning the keyboard into a trackpad. Giving yourself 30 seconds to unsend an email instead of 10. Finding out which app is genuinely draining your battery. Turning the back of your phone into two extra buttons.

How it's built

Every fix follows the same four-part shape. The problem in one sentence, the settings path in one line, numbered steps in order, and a note on the catch where one exists. You are meant to skim it, not read it.

What it is not

No jailbreaking. No third-party apps required. No subscriptions. Nothing that voids anything. These are settings that shipped on your phone and were never pointed out to you.

35 pages, PDF, light theme, designed to be readable on a phone screen.
